The so-called Saliera is Cellini's only surviving, fully authenticated work in gold. It was commissioned by King Frances I of France during the artist's stay in stay in Paris in 1540 till 1543 and was subsequently given by King Charles IX to Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol.
