The cameo by Ottavio Miseroni (1567-1624) shows Emperor Rudolf II (1552-1612) wearing a laurel wreath. Models were were antique cameos of Roman emperors which Rudolf II collected. Rudolf is depicted in the same manner to emphasize his succession. The art of stone cutting was Rudolf’s special passion what can be marvelled at the Kunstkammer Vienna.
