Aztec tutelary deity

The picture on this nice pen is inspired by the codex Borgia, which is one of the most spectacular still existing Aztec codices. It shows the tutelary deity for the eastern wind direction, depicted as warrior with shield, arrow and throwing board holding in his left hand.
A facsimile of the codex Borgia is on display right now in our exhibition "Aztecs" at the Weltmuseum Wien - the original is preserved in the Vatican library.
