Aztecs

These colourful lens cloth are inspired by one of the most spectacular pre-colonial manuscripts - the Codex Borgia. The painted symbols express the influence of specific deities on subdivisions of the calendar.
- tutelary deity for the eastern wind direction, depicted as warrior with shield, arrow and throwing board holding in his left hand
- deer with closed eyes, flowers, feathers and ornaments - the deer was a symbol of the sun god and its skin was often used as material for manuscripts
- deer with the 20 day signs/day names on the body
