Giovanni Francesco Susini, after Giambologna (1529-1608)
Despite taking as his starting point, the statue of Marcus Aurelius on Rome’s Capitol Hill, Giambologna was able to create a horse of effortless elegance, striking a completely natural posture and with a subtly turning head. This copy after Giambologna from the princely collection Liechtenstein was made by his pupil Susini in Florence around 1650.
