Johann Schantz (1762–1828) was considered beside Anton Walter and Nannette Streicher as the most prominent and best piano builder in Vienna. His instruments were highly valued by musicians and composers especially by Haydn and Beethoven.
One of his early fortepianos in the Collection of Ancient Musical instruments was recently restored and made playable again. The pianist Richard Fuller and the soprano Karoline Pilcz present this fortepiano with music from the time of its creation on this CD.
