"A full set of band parts for the Hallelujah Chorus is completely penetrated by two splinters of shrapnel. The parts belonged to the Band of the Grenadier Guards, which was touring the Western Front in 1917. There is something compelling about the shrapnel damage juxtaposed with the music. I chose the Trumpet parts for this edition to correspond with the damaged trumpet sounds in the Theseus Temple. The manuscripts are held in the collection of the Museum of Army Music at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, in Twickenham, England." (Susan Philipsz)
