Insignia or fan

Magnet Size: dm 5.5 cm

Among the works of Mexican feather art that have survived to the present day this insignia or fan is the only example of its kind. Its first mention in the inventory of Ambras was as "Windmaker", in 1788 it was listed as "sun shade" and from 1818, once mora as a "fan". That year it was designated as "Indian" and in 1882 as "Mexican". In Mexican codices, these objects are reproduced as banners or insignia of rank and symbols of gods, messengers, ambassadors and travellers.
