Laughing Boy

Desiderio da Settignano (1429/30-1464)
This sculpture (ca. 1464) is Da Settignano’s last work. It was in the tradition of Donatello and Luca della Robbia, who inspired by Antiquity rediscovered children as a new motif for Renaissance. Most of these busts were accommodated in private chapels as representations of Jesus as a child.
